I’ve been digesting a ton of psycho-cybernetics stuff lately; most notably, Dr. Mawell Maltz’s insightful analysis which shaped this an entire branch of behavioral psychology. Psycho-cybernetics is the mind’s ability to steer itself to positivity, productivity, and to achieving goals. As an entrepreneur and business owner, every day is a crap-shoot and things are always up and down, sideways, forwards and backwards. It’s a roller-coaster ride that can negatively cloud your mind and detrimentally impact your ability to execute on your business strategy if you let it. Since we’ve all been in a funk due to things going on in your business, here’s a good strategy that I just picked-up that has kept me feeling really positive and motivated all week! The exercise is quite simple. The idea is to reinforce positive thinking by constantly documenting and referencing your recent business successes. What you want to do is get out a sheet of paper or pull up a word processor on your comp, and start writing down all of your successes over the last 30 days (or for the current month). These business successes can be big or small. For example, you can write down how you closed a new client or simply document your ability to arrive an hour early to the office for 5 consecutive days. Whatever you’re proud of deserves to go on that paper. Make sure you update the document every day or every time you have a business victory. Over time you’ll have a great list of “super-hero” points that make you and your business awesome. The more you look at the doc, the more time you can spend time being happy, instead of incessantly dwelling on failures. Remember, when you control your happiness and your mind, you control your destiny.
Here are my successes over the last 30 days
- People Actually Do Care! I sent out an email to all of my list designers on GraphicDesignWars.com requesting some of their previous design samples to help promote the website and get more customers. To my surprise, an overwhelming 30+ designers responded and sent me multiple designs that they’d done. This was literally one of the happiest moments I’ve had since launching the site because it often  feels like people on the internet just ignore what I say.
- Holy Sh*t, I’m on Page 1 of Google! Yep, just found out that I’m in the #4 slot on Google for “Millionaire Marketing.” I decided to conduct the search on a whim and to my pleasant surprise, there I was! I guess blogging and SEO do pay off
- Ask and You Shall Receive. Mauricia Ragland over at SoulyYours agreed to take on a web redevelopment project for a nonprofit that I’m supporting, Empowered Youth. I originally agreed to do the redev myself but since I parted ways with my part-time developer, I hadn’t been able to complete the work. Mauricia is a rockstar and a life-saver!
- Design is in my blood! Having always considered myself a true entrepreneur, a chaser of great opportunities, I woke up at 3AM last week and realized that I do have a passion–I genuinely love design. Sounds odd coming from a guy that owns a design company, and it surprised me as much as it may surprise you. See, I never really could put my finger on what my passion was until early that morning. I love beautiful things: graphic design, fashion, architecture, murals, and on and on. This blew me away and put a big smile on my face
- Watch Out Lady Gaga! I recently discovered that the most logical way to get followers on Twitter is to talk to people! Duh! One day I sent out about 50 tweets to different people who mentioned they had created a new website. My tweet advised them to use Google Analytics to track website visitors and it included a link to one of my previous blog posts. I got 4 or 5 retweets and gained over 10 followers just by helping people and engaging them individually. Took me 30 minutes total. Now, I’m just 7,892,722 (<— not accurate) followers away from surpassing Lady Gaga.
This is just a handful of my latest business successes. When I read them and recall the moments when they occurred, I get a sudden boost of encouragement that lasts me several days. Nothing encourages people to keep pushing like results!
